Having recently lost my husband and consequently two dress sizes, I was in despair after seeking help in the lingerie departments of two major high street stores. Both gave me their 'padded uplift' bras which just pushed my bust up to a unnatural level with no cover for the upper part of my bust which has now lost all muscle tone. The result made me more depressed. A friend came to my rescue and took me to Bare Necessities in Marple. What a great shop. The girls were really helpful and friendly, putting me at my ease. After listening to my story, they produced several different styles of bra for me to try. I never realised what a difference a well fitting bra can make and how it can lift how you feel about yourself. Even more surprising was that I chose two totally different types of bra, each with different uses. I did not think I would be able to wear a lacey bra again but I was thrilled to find a perfect fit in the Prima Donna Madison collection. I can even use this bra for everday, the flat lace was pointed out, which I would not have thought was suitable for smoother clothes.
The choice I had for a smooth bra was very impressive. The Madison range had one and the Marie Jo Avero was a great fit too. The other thing I have noticed since I have worn the bras, they are all extremely comfortable, I hardly know I'm wearing one. This has never happened before.
They are more expensive but worth every penny. I was advised that i could wash them in the machine at 30 - impressive although I think I will probably keep washing by hand for a while.
What a super shop, great choice and knowledgable staff that guide you through the different styles so you get what suits you. I now feel I can go back with confidence that I will get what I want. They have a record of my likes/dislikes and what fitted. Great service and a pleasure to find all this in this day and age. I live over 10 miles away but will definately return. They also have a fantastic range of swimwear and seem to offer the same level of service. With a holiday planned with my friend , we are both planning our next visit! |

As a small busted woman I have always been conscious of my size but want to make the most of my assets. I have tried padded bras before but I find they make me look fake and are very unfeminine. When I visited Bare Necessities, they showed me the Marie Jo Avero push up bra. I have to say I wasn't sure until I tried it but what a great bra! It looks sexy and gives me a wonderful shape under my clothes. They do some nice bottoms as well, I really like the thong and the short.
They also told me that the similar style is done in other Marie Jo ranges, which is really great, I can get my boyfriend to choose a set for Christmas with confidence! I know the shop have created a customer 'profile' for me so they will be able to help select the right choices and I will get a lovely surprise, which I won't have to exchange - brilliant!

I have just given my wife her 'New Year' present which was a beautiful silk nightdress chosen from Bare Necessities Marple. I give a gift every year, its become a bit of tradition! I have bought pieces of silk and lingerie sets from Bare Necessities before, each time I have never been disappointed with either the choice or the quality.
They also have a record of sizes and previous purchases, which is really helpful for me. I have just found out that they are now online, which will be really useful when I'm working away. Its great to be able to use a site that I know and trust. For any guys reading this, you really won't go wrong - if you need any advice they are really friendly and helpful. John Carter. |

Many years ago (I'm not admitting to how many) I first crossed the threshold of Bare Necessities in Marple - at the time being embarrassed and having a huge inferiority complex about having a (very) small bust, with little hope of being able to purchase a bra as pretty as the one I had seen in the window. Despite that, some little guardian angel pushed me through the door and it was an experience that changed my life in more ways than one!! I was warmly welcomed, made to feel very comfortable and for the first time in my life was fitted for a bra. Imagine my surprise when I found out I wasn't as small as I imagined, had been wearing the wrong size for years (I'd only ever felt confident buying out of a catalogue - perish the thought now) and actually had a choice of styles, including the coveted one in the window. I walked out of the shop with a couple of different bra and brief sets, feeling like a million dollars. That is now history (so is the small bust size) and many bras, briefs, thongs, stockings, tights, nightwear, swimwear etc later, Bare Necessities is still the ONLY place where I buy my underwear, despite the fact that I now live in New Zealand, so that should tell you something as I am an extremely picky and pedantic person. The girls and especially the owner, Julie, will always go that extra mile to help you, ensuring that you are fitted correctly and make sure you walk out of the shop feeling like I did and still do. You will find a diverse range of makes and styles from which to choose, all from leading and designer brands, with prices to fit all budgets. I would say don't be put off if you happen to fall for a bra that initially seems expensive. Read the other reviews - at the end of the day you get what you pay for and in my opinion, I don't believe in compromising when it comes to feeling and looking as good as I can. Remember, what shapes you underneath, shapes you on the outside too! Give Bare Necessities in Marple a try - you're worth it!! |

I have shopped at Bare necessities for a few years now, buying gifts for my wife, and have always been delighted with the things I have bought and the service I have received and more importantly, so has my wife. I have just tried the online shopping and that was excelent. To all you men out there looking for the perfect gift for the girl in your life give Bare necessities a try. |

i went to this shop as it was recommended by a friend. For years i struggled with finding bras on the high street to fit me properly, many assistants made me feel as though my size was a problem when it is in fact quite common. Bare Necessities has so much stock - i couldn't believe the choice i was given. They have a real variety in makes, styles and prices. The fitting service was really good too- i was fitted in different bras, rather than just measured and left to find things myself. The fitter explained too why some fitted me better than others and she clearly knew which makes were best for my size. I have thrown away lots of my old bras now as they were the wrong size and feel and look awful in comparision to my new ones! I got a bikini as well while i was there (which is bra-sized so is really supportive - i've never felt so nice in swimwear!) Even though the shop is quite far from where i live i'll definitely go back - it's worth the effort. They have my size on file now so next time it should be even easier! I definitely recommend this shop to anyone looking for underwear, swimwear or nightwear they even have eveningwear - they have some really lovely stuff and offer great advice.

Hi there
Over a year ago, probably more like 2 years ago really, I purchased a Prima Donna bra from you. I thought the price was a bit steep but it fitted so well and was so comfortable that I went bought it anyway.
What a bargain it turned out to be. It has been worn at least 6 days a week, every week, rinsed out at night and back on again the next day. It’s been absolutely fantastic value for money, so much so that I came back a couple of weeks ago and bought the same bra all over again. Now, you would think that after being worn so much the older bra would took quite tatty but in reality it’s hard to tell the new from the old.
Absolutely excellent value for money.

As a previous M&S underwear consumer, I would like to express my delight with the Marie Jo brand, as well as being very stylish and extremely figure enhanching both the bras and briefs are very hard wearing. I have owned my present set for 18 months. machine wash them on a regular basis and am very pleased to say that they are still in good condition. After being professionally measued by Julie I was shocked to find that for the past 20 years I have been wearing the wrong size bra!! I would strongly recommend that every woman should be measured and has a visit to the extremely friendly and knowledgeable Bare Necessities. |

Just have to tell you I am very impressed by the quality of the workmanship and materials etc used in the making of the bra that I have been wearing - every day of this 4 month trip. It is the same bra I think that you bought me over 4 years ago for my 50th birthday, has been worn extensively, washed regularly in the washing machine(!) and tumbled dried. Over the last 4 months it has been severely sweated upon every day, and dried out the best I could overnight in the top of the tent, washed about once a month - I know, you will be horrified but at £10 a time to wash and dry a load at campsites you don't wash too often - and to hand wash is difficult as not enough time left to dry your washing in time to wear it again the day after .... Just started to get a bit of wear and tear this last week .... but everything else might be a bit dis-coloured !!! but all stitching in one piece, elastic working well, hooks and eyes stitched on as good as new etc - very impressive
